Ditch the Drama—Things We Can Learn About Moving From the Housewives

Confession time: I love watching The Real Housewives. It doesn’t matter if its Miami, Orange County, or New Jersey, I can’t get enough of their sass, parties, and beautiful homes. And since I work for a moving company, seeing their big homes (and big personalities) makes me wonder what the Housewives are like on moving day. I think we can all learn a little something from these, shall we say, spirited ladies. Here’s what we’ve gathered from a few popular Housewives—try applying these tips to your own move!

Kelly Bensimon – Recruit Your Friends

New York Housewife Kelly Bensimon is known for being a social butterfly. It’s not a stretch to assume that Kelly could gather up a crew of friends to help out on moving day pretty quickly. She’s always at a party or charity event of some sort—and let’s not forget the packed house at her infamous Halloween soiree! So what can we learn about moving from Kelly? If the workload is a little daunting, invite your friends over for a packing party! A few pizzas (or some gourmet hors d’oeuvres if you want to play Housewife) and some fun music will turn packing into a fun fete.

Vicki Gunvalson – Stay Positive

“Woohoo!!” If you’ve caught a single episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, you’ve probably heard Vicki’s electrifying cry. If your friends and family are helping you move, just remember that a little encouragement can work wonders during a long moving day—don’t hesitate to cheer them on!  If you need a little inspiration, here’s a montage of Vicki’s “Woohoo!”.

Nene Leakes – Take Charge

One of the most recognized ladies from RHOA (Real Housewives of Atlanta),  Nene Leakes is known for being a little overbearing—but she always gets the job done. Moving can be hectic, so don’t be afraid to make a plan that will make sure everything gets done on time (or you can use our moving checklist; just saying.) Remember to flash that sparkling smile to avoid any backlash if you’ll be handing out directions and tasks to your helpers. Hey, it works for Nene!

“The Countess” LuAnn de Lesseps  – Practice Proper Etiquette

LuAnn is the queen of class in the New York Housewives circle. In fact, she’s actually written a book and sang a song on the topic. LuAnn would insist that you practice appropriate etiquette during your move, whether it’s by giving your work a proper two weeks’ notice, or letting your friends and family know that you’re moving. If you need a quick way to introduce your new address, LuAnn would be all over these free moving announcements.

Caroline Manzo – Keep the Peace

On Real Housewives of New Jersey, Caroline Manzo is typically viewed as the peacemaker. Most recently, Caroline’s been trying to settle the feud between Teresa Guidice and her sister-in-law Melissa Gorga. Moving is full of stressors—something the Housewives know a thing or two about. Emotions may flair on moving day, but you can always take a cue from Caroline and remember to keep calm and move on.

Teresa Guidice– Lift Carefully

Speaking of Teresa, she would be a GREAT asset on moving day. Remember how she flipped that table with ease? Can you imagine her helping you load the heavy furniture on moving day? That would be awesome. Just remember to lift with your knees, not your back (Teresa would approve).

Lisa Vanderpump – Don’t Forget About Your Pets

Beverly Hills Housewife Lisa would certainly put her pets first on moving day. If you’re moving your pet, follow those tips to make sure they are well-cared for throughout the entire moving process.

So what’s it like to move if you’re a Housewife?

Most of the Housewives have huge, luxurious homes. Just what does it take to move when you have a 20,000 square foot home? Here’s an idea:

  • Beverly Hills Housewife Adrienne Maloof’s 20,000 square foot home would require 233 linear feet, or 8.5 moving trailers to move. A typical 4-bedroom home could fit in just 23 linear feet in one trailer—wow!
  • Lisa Vanderpump’s 15,480 square foot home would need at least 80 wardrobe boxes, 215 large moving boxes, 154 moving boxes, and 43 rolls of tape to pack everything up.
  •  Housewife Melissa Gorga’s 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom home (complete with a billiards room and library) would need 19-20 ReloCube moving containers to haul everything cross country! The typical 4-bedroom home would use only 5-6 ReloCubes.
  • Lisa Hochstein of The Real Housewives of Miami would likely need 8 men working two 8-hour days to load up her 14,000 square foot home. (That’s 140 man hours--most people need their movers for a few hours, not a few days!)

Which Housewife is your favorite? Did we miss out on any hidden moving lessons from anyone? You be the judge—let us know in the comments!
