Poetry for Mother’s Day

Though I don’t have children, Mother’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love making my mom feel special. If you’re looking for something thoughtful and unique to do for your mom this year, a Mother’s Day poem is a great idea. You could frame it and give it to her as a gift, combine several in a DIY book, or even post it to her Facebook wall – depending on what you think she would enjoy most. Let’s start by looking at an easy way to write your own unique Mother’s Day poem, and then we’ll show some great examples of poems you can give to your mom, grandma, or other special moms in your life.

Write Your Own Mother’s Day Poems

Writing poetry can be intimidating. But don’t worry – not all poems have to rhyme! The easiest type of poetry to write is an acrostic poem. When you write an acrostic, you take a word like “MOM” and assign each letter a word.  For example, “Mom” might be:

M- Magnificent
O- Optimistic
M- Mighty

To write an acrostic Mother’s Day poem for your mom, you could use several different words; maybe “MOTHER,” or “I LOVE YOU,” or even her name. If you have having trouble coming up with adjectives for different letters, check out the lists available here.

Examples of Mother’s Day Poems

There are many different types of poetry out there for Mother’s Day; some emotional, some funny, some rhyming, and some free verse. Here are some of my favorite Mother’s Day poems.

I Wish I Could Tell You, Mom
I wish I could tell you, Mom
how much you mean to me....
But there are no words to say
how much I admire you...
how much I appreciate you...
how much I thank you
for everything you've done.

Mother
Mother, you filled my days with rainbow lights,
fairytales and sweet dream nights,
A kiss to wipe away my tears,
Gingerbread to ease my fears.
You gave the gift of life to me,
And then in love, you set me free.
I thank you for your tender care,
for deep warm hugs and being there.
I hope that when you think of me,
A part of you, you'll always see.

Mom And Me
Best friends forever, mom and me
picking flowers and climbing trees.
A shoulder to cry on, secrets to share
Warm hearts, and hands that really care.

My Mother
My Mother, my friend so dear
throughout my life you're always near.
A tender smile to guide my way
You're the sunshine to light my day.

Roses are Red
Roses are red,
Windex is blue.
Thanks for keeping everything clean.
I appreciate you!

Mother’s Eyes
What are the songs the mother sings?
Of birds and flowers and pretty things;
Baby lies in her arms and spies
All his world in the mother's eyes.

What are the tales the mother tells?
Of gems and jewels and silver bells;
Baby lies in her arms and spies
All his wealth in the mother's eyes.

What are the thoughts in the mother's mind?
Of the gentle Savior, loving and kind;
Baby lies in her arms and spies
All his heaven in the mother's eyes.
