How to Move in a Week

July 18th, 2012 - 3:21 PM

Just the thought of having to complete a move in just one week is a little overwhelming. But, I bet you would be surprised by the number of people that find themselves in this exact situation. If you need to move in a week, and feel like you’re anxiously drowning in to-do lists, let me help guide you through the process.

First, let me calm some of your anxiety by telling you that U-Pack is almost always able to do a last-minute move. Now, let’s get down to business. First things first, print off U-Pack’s free moving checklist. This will help ensure you don’t forget anything.

Next, get a moving quote. It’s free and it’s instant. You don’t have to schedule an in-home estimate. Just use the online space estimator to help determine how much space you’ll need, and enter the information about your move. You can get an instant moving quote online, or call us at 800-413-4799.

Now, once you know the price, it’s time to reserve the move. As long as you’re a few days out, you can do this online, but since it’s last-minute, I recommend calling to speak with a U-Pack representative – 800-413-4799. This will help ensure you get all of your questions answered and may help alleviate some of the anxiety that goes along with moving in a week. If the exact day your shipment will arrive at the destination is important, ask your U-Pack representative about U-Pack Guaranteed. By adding this service you can guarantee and/or expedite transit time.

Get familiar with packing tips and loading tips. Just because you’re packing quickly, don’t pack poorly. Make sure you know best practices for packing and loading. If you don’t have time to order moving boxes, be sure to purchase quality boxes locally. Plastic totes and boxes you find behind grocery stores don’t provide the protection you need.

Start making phone calls. You’ll need to arrange shut-off dates and start dates at your new place. We recommend scheduling shut-off the day after move out, and turn-on the day before move-in.

Call your friends. They may be your most valuable asset when you’re trying to move in a week. They can help you pack, load, and eat the food you can’t eat.

Eat properly and get enough sleep. Moving is sort of a marathon-process. Make sure you take care of yourself by staying hydrated, nourished, and rested.

While we recommend planning your move far in advance, we know that’s not always possible. To see if we can help you move in a week, call or click today! Have questions? Leave a comment below.
