Current World Population | World Population Growth Trends
I think this is the most interesting infographic I’ve seen in a while—it’s titled World Population Growth—and is a great picture of how many people live in the world and what that population is likely to look like in 40 years.
I have to admit that being from a smallish city in the United States, it’s easy to live in a bubble and not think about things in terms of the entire world. Even more difficult to imagine is what it will look like in 40 years when I’m at retirement age (hopefully) and my future children are at the phase of life that I’m in now.
This infographic kind of helps me put things into perspective.
It’s almost mind-blowing to think about the fact that 6.8 BILLION people live on earth right now. That’s a lot of people. And think about this... the population is growing by 74 MILLION people a year, so by 2050 around 9.2 BILLION humans will live in the world. Considering that currently nearly 900 million people have no access to modern health services of any kind, population growth of that magnitude is concerning.
I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts about the statistics in this infographic. Leave a comment and tell me what you think.
