Cheap cross country moving options

If you’re worried about how much a cross country move may cost, consider a DIY option like U-Pack®. It’s a “you pack, we drive” service that pairs affordability with convenience — making it one of the best and cheapest ways to ship household goods across country. You save on labor costs, but don’t have to pay extra for fuel. And with flexible space options that easily accommodate small studio apartments, large multi-bedroom homes, and everything in-between, U-Pack is an affordable solution no matter how much you’re moving.

How flexible space makes shipping across country cheap

U-Pack is a “pay for the space you need” service, which means you won’t pay for any unused room (like you would if you got too big of a rental truck). By only charging for the space your household goods use, we make it easy to control rates.

Here’s an example:

Moving from a 3-bedroom home usually requires 17 linear feet in our moving trailer or 4 ReloCube® moving containers. However, if you have fewer belongings than a standard home or are able to pack and load well, you can use less room and save money.

If you’re using a trailer, the quote will provide a price based on the estimated space you’ll need, but it will also show a ‘per foot adjustment’ rate to help you keep track of your cost. If you use less space, subtract that amount for an even cheaper move! For more room, just add on the adjustment rate to see the new price. ReloCube rates are based on the total number of containers, so using fewer containers can make your cross country move cheaper.

Other reasons U-Pack is one of the cheapest ways to move across country

Don’t have much to get rid of? U-Pack is still a cheap option! While we do have a minimum space requirement (either one container or 5 linear feet in the trailer), people moving from small homes or apartments can still see significant cost savings when compared to other cross country movers. How do we do it? By providing efficient transportation, multiple delivery options and comprehensive quotes.

Efficient transportation network

ABF Freight®, our primary transportation provider, is one of the main reasons we’re able to offer cheap cross country moving services. To keep costs low, commercial freight is placed in the equipment with your belongings, separated by a secure divider wall. As the shipment moves across the country, professional drivers load and unload freight, but your belongings never move. A city driver delivers the household goods once the shipment reaches destination.

Cost-saving delivery option

Most U-Pack customers choose door-to-door delivery for convenience. But for a cheaper move, select a terminal-to-terminal delivery. With this method, you load and unload at a nearby service center. While it does require a little more work, there’s potential to save up to $300.

No surprise charges

There are no additional charges for the fuel, transportation, taxes or basic liability coverage — it’s all included in the quote. The only way the price will increase is if you add extra services like storage, loading help or guaranteed transit, or use more space than quoted.
