As you can imagine, some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions include those surrounding weight loss and fitness. Technology can really help you in reaching your goals in these areas. We have compiled a list of the best apps for weight loss including apps for nutrition, calorie counting, fitness, yoga, and running to help you reach your health and fitness goals. I have linked to these apps in the iTunes store, but many of these apps for weight loss are also available for Android and Blackberry.

Best Apps for Nutrition

Your first step in getting healthier should be focusing on getting good nutrition. These apps will help you make good food choices.

  • Fooducate- In this nutrition app, you scan food labels (or browse the list of foods) and it gives you a rating of the food. It will alert you to nutrition “dangers” such as GMOs, high sugar content, and other risks. It will also recommend healthier alternatives.

  • Eat This, Not That! The Game- One of the difficult parts about eating healthy is eating out. You can learn what foods to choose in this fun game. You get photos of two dishes side by side and choose the best one. Learn healthy eating while having fun!

  • Waterlogged- Proper hydration is key to a healthy lifestyle. In this app, you can set goals (like 64 ounces daily) and track your water consumption.

Best Apps for Calorie Counting

Now that you know what to eat, you need to figure out how much to eat. A great, healthy way to lose weight is by calorie counting. These apps will help you navigate your way to your weight loss goals.

  • My Fitness Pal- With over 2 million foods, you can easily track your food intake in this app. You can also create and save recipes for when you cook at home. This app also has some social integration where you can add “friends” so you can support one another.

  • Lose it!- Not only can you track calories, but LoseIt also helps you track your nutrients such as protein, fat, carbs and more. You can use a scanner to log packaged foods, too!

  • Livestrong.com Calorie Tracker- With this app for calorie counting, you can set your goals and track your food. This app has over 1.3 million food and restaurant items in the database, making tracking a breeze! It tracks workout calories as well.

Sure, you could go to the gym. But why do that when you have all these great apps to help you with your fitness?

  • Daily Workouts Free- This fitness app features 10 to 30 minute workouts. You can select your workout time and focus (upper body, lower body, full body), and then it gives you videos where you can follow along.

  • Interval Timer – Seconds- Interval workouts are very effective, but it can be tough to keep track of your time. This fitness app allows you to set up interval workouts, and it will tell you when to switch exercises.

  • Yoga Face- Don’t forget to exercise those muscles in your face! You can get five lessons with follow-along videos to help you work your facial muscles to reduce and prevent wrinkles and stress.

  • Relax Melodies- This is the perfect app for yoga! It contains 46 ambient sounds for the soundtrack to your yoga. There are also soothing graphics and timers available.

Whether you are just starting out as a runner, or training for a marathon, these apps will help you be the best runner you can be!

  • RunKeeper- This running app allows you to track your runs, walks, bike rides, or hikes with GPS technology. You can track your pace, distance, time, calories burned, and more right in the app! You can also set interval workouts, and RunKeeper will alert you when you have completed your intervals.

  • C25k – 5k Trainer Free- Want to become a runner but don’t know where to start? This app will help you run a 5k in just 8 weeks with their training program. You can also integrate it with Facebook and Twitter to find friends who are runners.

  • Ghost Race- If you are competitive, you can compete in a “ghost race” every time you run! You can set pace goals and this app will show you if you are beating your goals while you run.
