The best place to buy moving boxes
If you’ve ever compared value items to name brand, you’ve probably noticed that choosing the cheaper option sometimes means losing a little quality. This may not make a difference if you’re buying basics like white vinegar, but it could be really important for something like running shoes. You want shoes that will support and protect your feet the entire time you’re wearing them, and quality shoes are designed to do just that.
The same idea applies to moving boxes. They protect your belongings during transit and help ensure items arrive in good condition. But quality material doesn’t have to be expensive — the U-Pack Box Store offers professional moving supplies at reasonable prices. Learn more about why “cheap” or free boxes may not be the best option, and see what makes U-Pack supplies a better choice.

How much do you get paid to live in Alaska?
There are rumors that you can move to Alaska for free or get paid to move to Alaska. Unfortunately, they’re not true — but you can get paid to live there. The state’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) Program provides all of Alaska’s permanent residents (both children and adults) a small portion of the state’s oil wealth annually. So if you’re moving there, you could start getting yearly checks!

Selling a house as is? Or making upgrades first?
Homeowner improvement spending is on the rise! Projections show that overall improvements will cost U.S. homeowners $243 billion by 2020, according to the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. The number of overall projects being done is split between major and minor renovations, but spending is much higher for major projects like room additions or complete kitchen remodels. Both big and small projects can add value to the home, and the route you go will likely depend on several factors. In many cases, it can be better to make basic repairs or small updates rather than do a complete renovation.
When trying to sell a house, it can be tough to determine where to invest time and money. Take a look at which interior and exterior projects can add the most value to your home, and determine whether to do small upgrades or improve the area with a more substantial renovation.

If you’re thinking about U-Haul® truck rental, read this first
As a completely do-it-yourself option, you may assume that U-Haul prices are the most affordable when compared to other types of moving services. And since there’s likely a truck rental lot in your city, it could also seem like the most readily available option. While that may be the case for local moves, when it comes traveling long distance, rental trucks aren’t always the best fit. Here are some things to consider:

Which are lower: PODS® costs or U-Pack® costs?
When comparing options for a long-distance move, you’ll likely see a wide range of prices — even within the same service type. For moving and storage containers, prices can vary depending on the company’s locations, equipment availability and general pricing method (like if they charge per container or automatically include storage time). Because of this, the easiest way to choose the right service is to do a side-by-side comparison. Many people compare U-Pack to PODS®, so let’s take a closer look at the details and costs.

Will my belongings fit into a 24’ truck?
Between large pieces of furniture and things packed in boxes, it can be hard to picture how much space you’ll need in a rental truck. The companies recommend trucks based on home size, but if you have a 3-bedroom home you may not be sure what to do. The biggest trucks (usually 26-foot) typically say they’re best for 3-4 bedroom homes, while the next size down (20-foot in many cases) is for 2-3 bedrooms. Somewhere in the middle is a 24 ft. rental truck, but they can be hard to find. Take a look at where to locate these vehicles and what to do if you can’t find one nearby.

Moving? Don’t forget your moving announcements!
There are many people to notify about an upcoming move, but it’s not always convenient to make the announcement. It’s easy to tell people you frequently see in person: coworkers, neighbors, the friend you have lunch with each week. But there are several other people to tell (just think about all the families who send you Christmas cards every year). The good news is it’s easy to make a free (or at least very inexpensive) moving announcement. Print them and mail them or post one on social media — they’re easy to download and customize.

Get mail at your new home with a USPS Change of Address Form
Have you ever seen a yellow sticker on a piece of mail with the words return to sender, not deliverable as addressed or unable to forward? The United States Postal Service calls these pieces “Undeliverable As Addressed” (UAA) mail — they can’t be delivered with the address on them and must be forwarded, returned or thrown away.
Filling out a Change of Address form will ensure your mail gets to your new home. Look at the options for forwarding, completing the process and what items will and won’t forward.
