Is a passport required for U.S. citizens to move to Mexico?
Yes. According to the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. citizens (including children) must present a valid US passport book or card to enter Mexico – whether moving there or just visiting. If you enter Mexico by air, a passport book is required. If you enter Mexico by land or sea, you can use a passport book or passport card.

When you ask a question like, “What’s the best way to move cross country?” are you looking for a process that's easy, the lowest price, a dependable service? I'll go out on a limb and guess that most people prefer a combination of the three—a dependable service that offers a convenient process at an affordable price.
That’s exactly what you get with U-Pack—the affordability of a self-move, without the stress of driving a rental truck across the country.
Let’s take a deeper look at what makes U-Pack a great choice for cross-country moving.
Planning a move across the country starts with getting quotes – it’s how you know exactly how much to budget. U-Pack® is an easy, affordable option for getting your belongings all the way across the country, and we make getting an online quote – and adjusting it later if you need to – really, really easy. Of course, if you’d rather speak to someone directly (and experience great customer service), you can also call 800-413-4799.
We only need to know three basic things to calculate your cross-country moving quote:
There are a variety of ways that movers charge including shipment weight, truck size, crew size, or even mileage. If you’re moving long distance, the biggest factor will be your mileage. When movers charge by the mile, it can end up costing you extra money.

What you need to move to Mexico
If you’re moving to Mexico from the U.S., you’ll definitely need a passport, but what else should you be prepared for? Depending on your reasons for moving, you may also need a visa and other documents. Let’s take a look at what’s required, and some tips for moving your belongings to Mexico the easy way.
The largest truck you can rent from U-Haul® is the 26-foot truck. If you’re moving a large home and considering one for your cross-country move, there are a few things to think about: Is it large enough to hold your belongings? Is it too big for what you’re moving? Is there a better way to move? Let’s take a look.
The answer is no, plain and simple. U-Pack prides itself on having absolutely no hidden charges. While there are additional charges for additional services, we don’t surprise you with unexpected costs. With U-Pack, when you add additional services or make changes to your move, we’ll let you know exactly what you’re paying for.
If you’re shipping at least one room of furnishings and your move is long distance U-Pack is almost always the cheapest way to ship household goods—especially when you compare to containerized shipping services like PODS® or traditional full-service moving companies.
