Make Military Moving Work for You

Do you have Permanent Change of Station orders with a military move on the horizon? If so, you have a couple of options for getting your household goods to your new duty station.

In most cases you’ll be able to do either a government arranged move, or a Personally Procured Move (PPM).

Moving to Fort Wainwright, AK

By Jeremy
March 3rd, 2013 - 12:35 PM

Now that you have your Permanent Change of Station orders to begin moving to Fort Wainwright, you have a choice to make: let the government plan the move for you or do a Personally Procured Move (PPM), where you are in charge of your move. I suggest getting the best of both worlds (and possibly pocketing some of your moving allowance) with a “you pack, we drive” moving service like U-Pack. With U-Pack, you can get rates similar to truck rental, but you don’t have to drive.

PCSing to Fort Carson?
If you’ve just been given Permanent Change of Station Orders for moving to Fort Carson, the next step is figuring out how to get your belongings there. I suggest doing a PPM (Personally Procured Move) with U-Pack.

Eligible service members with PCS orders will be offered a monetary allowance from the government if they decide to do a PPM move. Basically, if your move to Fort Carson ends up costing less than your allowance from the government, you get to keep what’s left over. This makes doing a PPM totally worth it. Sound good?
