Where to buy moving boxes

It's Flashback Friday!  Each week U-Pack revisits a blog topic that has been helpful to our readers. Today's flashback— "Where to Buy Moving Boxes".  A few things have changed since we first posted this (now there's FREE SHIPPING), so we updated it too. Happy Friday!

What is the Best Place to Buy Moving Boxes?
We recommend the U-Pack Box Store.  Just select the boxes and moving supplies you need, and U-Pack will ship them right to your door with FREE SHIPPING!  The "Starter Kit" is probably U-Pack's most popular box assortment.  It sells for $64.95 and typically works for a studio-size apartment.  You get 5 small boxes, 4 medium boxes, 2 large boxes, 1 - 175 ft. roll of bubble wrap, 1 - 110 yard roll of box tape and a marker.

Of course, if you have a larger home, or need more boxes and supplies, they're available too.  And as an added bonus, customers with a U-Pack Moving reservation get an additional 10% off their entire box store order!  Just enter your reference number when you check out.  (If you want to know how much it costs to move with U-Pack, getting an instant moving quote is easy too, just call or click - 800-413-4799!)

Grocery Store Boxes vs. Buying "Real" moving boxes
If you ask around about the best places to buy moving boxes, I'm certain someone will tell you, "don't buy them, just pick some up from behind the grocery store— they're free".  Yes, they're free, but it's not a good idea, for two main reasons:

  • They're normally thin, flimsy and easily torn.  The result can be damaged items due to the lack of needed protection.
  • You'll often find BUGS.  When you get your boxes from the grocery store dumpster or in the alley behind the store, the likelihood of picking up a few varmints is high— they become little bug condos. Even if you don't see them, they're known for laying eggs inside the box walls.  No thanks.  Not a good combination for moving your household belongings.

Though there is cost involved when you buy moving boxes instead of getting them for free from the grocery store, I think you'll find it's worth it in the end.  Things like clothing and linens are fine in flimsy boxes, but when the items you're moving are fragile, expensive or otherwise susceptible to damage, choosing "real" moving boxes is the way to go.  You'll be pleased to know that U-Pack moving boxes are constructed of thick, sturdy cardboard— designed to protect your belongings and help them travel safely.  And they're new, so no chance of bugs!
