Cross-country shipping that's easy and affordable

There are plenty of ways to ship your household goods across the country, but there’s only one option that pairs affordable rates with exceptional service – and that’s U-Pack®. Get an instant moving quote online to see how much you can save compared to traditional full-service shipping companies.

What is U-Pack and how does it work?

U-Pack was designed to help you ship your household goods across the country for a reasonable price.  You load and unload your belongings, and U-Pack drives. The final price is based on how much space you use, not weight (like traditional shipping companies do). Most customers find that this makes a big impact on their final shipping costs.

Why space vs. weight matters when shipping household goods

When the price is based on weight, a moving company representative does an in-home estimate where they walk through your home and estimate how much your belongings weigh. After the loaded truck leaves your home, they'll take it to a weigh station to get the actual weight. If there's a discrepancy in the actual weight and the quoted weight, your price could go up.

When price is based on linear feet, an in-home estimate isn’t necessary. You can enter all of the items you’re moving into our space estimator tool to calculate the linear footage (or number of Cubes™) you need. Your quote includes a per-foot adjustment rate that you can add or subtract if you need more or less space on moving day. When you pay based on linear feet, you know the price as you load—no surprises after the truck leaves your home.

How U-Pack determines your cross-country shipping cost

Because U-Pack prices are based on linear footage instead of weight, calculating your cross-country shipping costs is easy. You only pay for the space you use—regardless of how much you reserve (down to a 5 ft. minimum). That means, if you use less, you pay less… simple as that.

Here’s an example: Let’s say you’re moving a large three-bedroom home and you get a quote for 21 linear feet in the trailer, but on moving day you’re able to fit everything into 19 linear feet. You only pay for 19 linear feet. Just subtract the per-foot adjustment rate included in your quote to calculate your new price. We don’t charge your credit card until after your shipment is loaded and you know exactly how much space you’ve used.

U-Pack customers love the flexibility and appreciate knowing exactly what they’ll pay before their shipment leaves their home.

Service goes a long way when it comes to shipping cross country

A low price doesn’t always mean you’ll get reliable service. U-Pack goes above and beyond to help you ship safe, fast and secure.

  • Once you load your items into the trailer and secure them in place, that’s where they stay until you unload. Other companies may transfer your shipment during transit.
  • U-Pack allows only one household goods shipment per trailer; no co-mingling!
  • U-Pack averages cross country shipment times of just 2-5 business days, much faster than the 4-6 weeks it could take traditional shippers.
  • If you need to store your shipment, you don’t have to unload at a storage unit. Just store directly in the trailer or ReloCube at your local service center.

I’ve got a small shipment—can U-Pack help?

Absolutely. The ReloCube is ideal for smaller shipments. One Cube is large enough to hold the furnishings of a studio-size apartment, yet small enough to fit into a single parking space (especially helpful for areas with limited parking). Similar to the trailer, you only pay for what you use. What a convenient way to move!

If you need to ship just a few boxes, ABF Freight may be able to help.
