What, exactly, am I loading into?

There are two equipment options for moving with ABF U-Pack – moving in a trailer or moving in a ReloCube.

Trailer Move
The trailer is a good choice whether you're moving one room of furniture all the way up to a four-bedroom or larger home (you can move in more than one trailer if you need to).  The trailer is 28 ft long, 8 ft wide and 9 ft tall.  The trailer sits about 48" off the ground, so each ABF trailer is equipped with a ramp for loading and unloading. The ramps are specifically built for ABF trailers and are 2 ft wide and 14 ft long and have a maximum weight limit of 1,000 lbs.

ReloCube Move
The ReloCube is designed for a small move – although you can use multiple ReloCubes for a larger move if needed for parking or loading convenience. The outer dimensions of the ReloCube are 6 ft long, 7 ft wide and 8ft tall.  The actual interior dimensions of the ReloCube are a bit smaller – 70 in. long, 82 in. wide and 93 in. tall). The maximum weight limit for the ReloCube is 2,500 lbs and they offer ground-level loading.

you should publish the interior dimensions of the ReloCubes on the FAQ pages - I didn’t look through the blogs before my move, had two shelves measuring just under 7’ wide total and thought I could fit them side-by-side in the back of the cube, and missed the mark by about an inch.

also might want to mention that two locks are needed per cube - even though the doors overlap, it would be possible to pry open the unlocked side if only one lock was used.

my experience as a whole was excellent, I will definitely use your service again in the future.

Great suggestions Ted. Thanks so much for your comments. And we're pleased that you had such a good experience. The interior dimensions of our moving equipment can be found on the ReloCube Size page at upack.com. Interior dimensions are certainly helpful!

The quote I got shows that a ReloCube is more expensive than 5-foot trailer space. What’s the advantage of using a ReloCube vs. trailer space for small moves besides the parking convenience?

Ava, ReloCube advantages: ground level loading, smaller space for parking concerns, lock it- you keep the key, storage if needed, lots of tie-off spots inside cube walls.
Trailer advantages: flexible space (in case you need more/less than quoted, you only pay for the space you use. Also, storage available for trailers, if you need it.

Hope this helps!

I am also weighing the options between a relo-cube and 6-ft of trailer space with a move from PA to WA. I have been using the interior dimentions of the relocube to make a diagram and have decided the furniture and boxes I am moving will fit. My main concern is the weight. I have no idea how to visualize 2500 lbs. How often to people tend to have problems keeping it under the weight limit?

Ashley, if you are moving typical household items, there shouldn't be a concern about exceeding the 2500# weight limit. The problem comes when people are moving a large library of books, or lots of garage tools, or pottery/cement statues, etc. If you are moving anything you might be concerned about, just call our customer service center 800-240-7422 and we can talk you through it. Thanks.
