Have you considered a shipping container for your move?

If so, you may have questions related to how they work, how much they cost, and what size you need. While there are several types of containers available, today we’ll focus on the options available with U-Pack®, a solution many call the best value for shipping household goods.

Where does U-Pack ship?

We offer door-to-door household goods shipping services to 90% of the U.S. (including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico),Mexico and Canada. To determine if your specific zip codes are serviceable, pelase call a helpful U-Pack moving consultant at 800-413-4799 or check online by getting a free moving quote.

There are a few different equipment options to choose from: a ReloCube®, a moving trailer, or an ocean container.

The ReloCube is ideal for moving from a storage facility, apartment, or residential neighborhood with limited parking. It’s a small, weatherproof metal container that typically holds the furnishings of a studio-size apartment—with a weight limit of 2,500 lbs. You can reserve as many as you think you need and only pay for the ones you actually use. The ReloCube can be shipped from state to state within the continental U.S. or to/from Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

The Moving Trailer is one of the most popular ways to ship household goods cross-country and overseas to Alaska and Puerto Rico. It’s 28 ft. long and has a loading capacity of about 2,000 cubic feet. And if that seems too large for your shipment—no problem. You pay based on the linear footage your shipment occupies inside. This makes the moving trailer ideal for both large and small shipments. The trailer can also be shipped from state to state within the Contiguous U.S., to and from Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, and to Mexico.

The Ocean Container is specifically made for moves to Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. It’s 40 ft. long and can hold up to 44,000 lbs. These shipping containers are best for three-bedroom homes or larger. In contrast to the moving trailer – where price is based on linear footage – the ocean shipping containers are priced per container. If you’re moving to or from one of these locations, call 800-413-4799 for an instant quote (or we’ll email a quote within 24 hours).

How long does it take to ship the container with U-Pack?

For moves within the Contiguous U.S., U-Pack averages transit times of 2-5 business days (your U-Pack quote will reflect your estimated transit time). And, if you need to know the exact day of arrival, we offer the option of adding U-Pack Guaranteed.

How does shipping a container with U-Pack work?

U-Pack makes it convenient! We deliver to your door and you get up to three business days to load. Then, we’ll ship it to your new home and you get three business days to unload. Take a look at this short video to see how it all works.

Does U-Pack offer container storage for my shipment?

Yes! Whether you need storage at your origin or destination, U-Pack can help. You can store your belongings inside the equipment you load it into. Then, just call to schedule delivery when you’re ready to unload. It’s incredibly easy and convenient.

How much do U-Pack containers cost?

Check it out – you can get a price for your shipment online, anytime! Just enter where you’re shipping from and to, and an estimate of how much and when you’re moving. In most cases you’ll be able to see the price instantly. (If you’re moving to Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or other “remote” locations, it can take up to 24 hours to get your quote via email – or you can call 800-413-4799 to get the price instantly).

Most people would tell you that U-Pack rates are very affordable. In many cases the price comapres to renting a truck and driving it yourself.
