If you’re moving with kids and moving with U-Pack, you’ll be able to drive your own car and have some fun along the way! I know a lot of vehicles are equipped with entertainment systems and DVD players these days…but take your kids on a trip down memory lane – sing some good road trip songs and play the old school road trip games.  Here are a few suggestions – feel free to comment and add to the list!

Road Trip Games
I Spy
– Since you’re riding in a car and the things you have to spy are limited, this might be a short game. But it’s great for holding a preschooler’s attention. The person who is “It” says, “I spy with my little eyes something blue.” Then, the person who guesses correctly goes next.

The ABC game – Start with A and take turns finding words on signs, billboards, buildings, etc. that begin with each letter of the alphabet.  Watch out for Q’s and Z’s…sometimes they’re hard to find.

Rock, Paper, Scissors – Everyone probably already knows how to play – but here goes, just in case: Two players make a fist with one hand and hold the other one open, palm up. They tap their fist in their open hand together two times. Then, on the third time they form one of three items – either rock (hand in a fist), paper (hand flat), or scissors (do your fingers like scissors).  Rock crushes scissors, scissors cut paper and paper covers rock.  You can keep score and play until one player reaches the pre-determined score.

License Plate Search – See how many states you can find on license plates. It’s fun to mark them off of your atlas as you find them.

Count the Cows – Split up in teams and each team picks a side of the road to count cows. Anytime you pass a cemetery you have to bury your cows and start over.

Now…here are some great Road Trip songs:

• She’ll be Comin’ Around the Mountain
• Kum Ba Yah
• I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad
• If You’re Happy and You Know It
• Found a Peanut
• Old McDonald
• B-I-N-G-O
• Then…if you’re really brave, you can try “round” songs like Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Three Blind Mice

Now that should make moving with kids a little easier and a little more fun!
