Moving Trailer vs. ReloCube: Which should I choose?

Our lives revolve around the choices we make. Hit the snooze button or get up? Cook dinner or go out to eat? When you move with U-Pack, you get a choice in moving equipment! So if you’re asking yourself “Moving trailer vs. ReloCube®: which should I choose?” I’m here to help you decide!

The Moving Trailer
U-Pack’s moving trailer is 28 ft. long, and has a capacity of 2,000 cubic feet. It can legally haul 22,500 lbs. Because each linear foot of household goods is estimated to weigh about 450-500 lbs., a full trailer would weigh approx. 12,600 lbs. The trailer comes with a loading ramp and secure dividing wall, called a bulkhead, to separate your shipment from other commercial goods going the same direction. U-Pack moves only one household goods shipment per trailer, so your belongings will never be co-mingled or transferred, unlike most full-service movers. The moving trailer is great for moving larger homes, like 3-bedroom to 4-bedroom. The loading space in a U-Pack moving trailer is equivalent in size to a 26 ft. and 10 ft. rental truck combined (with space still left over).

The ReloCube
U-Pack’s ReloCube is 6’3”D x 7’W x 8’4”H custom-built weatherproof moving container. They sit flat on the ground for easy loading and unloading. They can hold a max of 2,500 lbs., and can easily fit into a standard-size parking space. They are great for small moves, as one ReloCube typically holds a studio-size apartment. You secure the Cube by putting your own lock on it and keeping the key.

(Note: If you receive only a moving trailer quote, it could be that ReloCube service is not available on one or both ends of your move or that the trailer is a more economical solution. If that’s the case, please contact a U-Pack representative at 800-413-4799 and we will be happy to check ReloCube serviceability in your area).

So while both U-Pack moving options are different, they do have one great thing in common—you only pay for what you use!

  • Use 16 ft. of the moving trailer and only pay for 16 ft. (5 ft. minimum).
  • Reserve 3 ReloCubes, use 2, only pay for 2.

The ability to control the price is a perk U-Pack customers LOVE!

To determine how much space you’ll need, use U-Pack’s space estimator tool.

Storage options are available for both types of moving equipment. You can even track your shipment online 24/7 while it’s in transit to your new home.

Now that you know your options, here’s how a U-Pack move works:

  • U-Pack delivers a moving trailer or ReloCube(s) to your home.
  • You load within three business days.
  • U-Pack drives your shipment to your new home.
  • You unload within three business days.

Did you catch that third bullet point? U-Pack prices are comparable to truck rental, but U-Pack does the driving. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
