Did you know that most Americans move 5 to 7 times during their lifetime? This means that we move more than any other culture. Although damage is unlikely if you do your research, use a company with a record of safe driving and a low claims ratio and you take good care in packing and loading, each move brings with it the possibility of damage to your belongings. That is why it is so important to know how your items are covered while they are in transit. ABF Liability Coverage This allows for ABF to offer two different types of liability coverage with EVERY move. Check out ABF U-Pack Liability Coverage in detail at upack.com. Keep in mind that liability is different from insurance. Most do-it-yourself movers will offer liability coverage. You do the packing, loading and unloading, therefore, you are responsible if something gets damaged due to your negligence. For example: You put your fish tank in the trailer but leave the fish and the water in the tank. The tank breaks while in transit and causes water damage to your brand new leather couch. (Don’t laugh…It has happened.) ABF would not be liable for the damage. Make sure you drain all liquid! Moving Insurance There are companies that sell moving insurance, but most require that an approved mover packs your items. It’s an excellent idea to contact your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance agent to see if your current policy covers your items while in transit. ABF's Safety and Security Record Reminder: Don’t ship items that you cannot place a value on. Example: expensive artwork, antiques, important papers, etc. |
