It's Flashback Friday— each week, U-Pack will revisit a blog topic that's been helpful and fun for our readers. Be sure to check the comments section of each post for even more valuable moving advice! This week, we're revisiting one of the most useful U-Pack blog posts— the one about military weight tickets. If you're making a DITY move, you'll want to know all of the details and steps required for ensuring proper reimbursement. Have more questions that aren't answered here? Let us know! In order to be reimbursed for your DITY Move (Do-It-Yourself), you'll need to have the following documents:
The U.S. military provides the DD Form 2778, Standard Form 1038 and DD Form 1351-2, and your moving company will need to provide Certified Empty and Loaded Weight Tickets. If you have specific questions about requirements for a military relocation, your best resource is your Personal Property Transportation Officer (PTO). They can go over the DITY move procedure and answer questions about the documents you'll need for your move. If you are doing a military relocation move, U-Pack can provide Certified Weight Tickets upon request. Before we drop the ABF trailer or ReloCube(s) to you, our driver will go to a certified scale to have it weighed empty. Then, after it's loaded, our driver will return to the certified scale to have it weighed full. When the trailer or ReloCube is delivered to your destination, the driver will give you a copy of the full and empty certified weight tickets to submit for reimbursement. If you plan to be reimbursed for your military move, make sure that the moving company you choose is willing to provide certified weight tickets and verify the charge for empty and full tickets. |

This information has been very very helpful, however I have a complicated situation and I need guidance. My husband went from basic to AIT,to Fort Hood Texas and then to Iraq in less than a year. I remained in North Carolina with my family and did not move to Texas. My husband will be returning in June, now I will be moving to Texas, we want to do the Dity move. Would I contact the nearest base which is Fort Bragg, or do I need to contact Fort Hood Texas? Also I do not have a copy of my Husbands orders but I have Power of Attorney would that help? Please help me ASAP!!!! Thank you!!!
