Interstate vs. Intrastate moves

An intrastate move is one that stays within the same state.  For example, let's say you are moving from Sacramento, CA to Fresno, CA.  This is an intrastate move. Since the definition of "intra" is "within", it makes sense to use the term "intrastate move" to define a move that is within the same state.

Long Distance Moving

An interstate move can best be described as a move from one state to another within the United States.  For example, moving from Las Vegas, NV to Nashville, TN is an interstate move.  The definition of "inter" is "between". So, when you are moving between states, you're doing an "interstate" move.
