How to Compare Move Rates
As we've said here many times before, moving requires some planning. Part of that planning includes forming a budget to keep your moving expenses at a minimum. Unfortunately, most moving companies are not created equal; that's why it's important to compare move rates when trying to decide which is best for your situation.

When you set out to compare move rates, the first thing I suggest you do is check each moving quote to see what type of service you're being quoted for. This might seem silly, but you'll be glad you verified whether you're looking at a full service moving company, a rental truck, or a ’you-pack, we-drive' service. It's hard to make an informed decision when you're not sure what you're actually comparing!

The second thing to ask when comparing move rates is "how much bang will I get for my buck?" Sometimes truck rental may seem like the cheapest way to move— but when you add the fuel cost, hotel stays, meals on the road, and the fact that you have to do the driving, it adds up more than you would think. When you compare move rates, remember to include the outside ’soft costs' that can quickly drain your moving budget.

My last piece of advice would be to check out what other consumers think about a particular moving company. Even after you compare move rates, it can still sometimes be difficult to make a decision. Review sites like Epinions or Kudzu can shed light on what to expect from moving companies.
