How much can a moving truck hold?
What is the Capacity of a Moving Truck?
Homes come in all shapes and sizes, which can make moving difficult because moving trucks only come in a few standard sizes. When you’re preparing to move, you’re going to have to figure out how much a moving truck can hold so you know what size truck to use. It can be frustrating to try and figure out your needs before moving.
U-Pack actually has a great solution to this problem that allows you to be flexible with your space. But how much space will you need?
How much will a moving truck hold?
U-Pack moving trailers are unique – they are bigger than traditional moving trucks. The external dimensions of a U-Pack trailer are 28’ x 8’ x 9’ (L x W x H), which is the equivalent of a 26’ moving truck plus a 10’ truck. The internal dimensions are 324” x 96” x 108” (which is a total of about 2,000 cubic feet). I know that sounds like a lot of space, but U-Pack lets you use the space you need, eliminating the worry of running out of room in your truck.
See, U-Pack lets you use anywhere from 5 linear feet to the entire trailer. A linear foot is basically like a “slice” of the moving truck, so 5 linear feet of space means you get five foot long “slices,” making your total space 5’ x 8’ x9’.
Our space estimator will help you figure out your specific space needs, but on average, this is how it breaks down, and typically the amount of stuff the moving truck will hold:
- A studio apartment or one room’s worth of furniture= 5-6 linear feet
- One Bedroom Home= 7-12 linear feet
- Two Bedroom Home= 13-16 linear feet
- Three Bedroom Home= 17-22 linear feet
- Four Bedroom Home = 23-28 linear feet
- Five Bedroom Home= 35 linear feet (which one full trailer and 7 linear feet in a second trailer)
After you enter the size of your move, your moving quote will estimate out how much space you’ll need in the moving trailer, and it will calculate a price for you. The quote also includes a “per foot rate” showing you the cost of each additional linear foot, if you need it. The “per foot rate” also works in reverse. If you can fit into less space, you can subtract the per foot rate, down to a 5 ft. minimum. It’s a great way to save on your move because you pay only for the space you use.
