U-Pack is proud to offer quick, reliable moving services for customers moving to Hawaii from the upper 48 and Alaska. ABF, U-Pack's transportation provider, is the largest Transcontinental Carrier Operation on the Hawaiian Islands, with a service center located just two miles from the port of Honolulu.
Since moving to Hawaii means your household goods travel over water rather than just over-the-road, customer's moving to the Aloha State normally have a few more questions than the "typical" moving customer. The information that follows was designed to make your move more manageable and answer some of the questions you may have. If you don't find your questions answered here, please feel free to call one of U-Pack's Hawaii experts at 800-413-4799 or leave a comment below.
First, there are three options available for moving to Hawaii with U-Pack:
If you choose the ocean container option, U-Pack can arrange delivery right to your door in almost every location on the Hawaiian Islands. Door delivery using a ReloCube is available only on the islands of Oahu and the Big Island. If you wish to save money and manage an unload at an off-site location, you can also choose a ReloCube terminal unload on Oahu, the Big Island, Maui and Kauai. Your U-Pack representative will be happy to discuss the terminal unload' option with you.
Storage is available in ReloCubes (not ocean containers) on the island of Oahu only. If you're moving to an island other than Oahu and need storage, we can still help! We recommend storing your ReloCube at the ABF terminal closest to your origin location or at the ABF terminal in Pico Rivera, CA or Oakland, CA (the terminal locations the containers sail out of). Make sure to discuss storage options in Hawaii with your U-Pack representative.
Moving to Hawaii in an Ocean Container
Ocean containers are normally the best options for customers moving from a location that isn't serviced direct with a ReloCube or for customers moving a large home to Hawaii. The maximum weight limit of a 20' container is 32,000 lbs. and has a cubic capacity of approximately 1,171 cubic feet. The maximum weight limit for a 40' container is 44,000 lbs. and it has a cubic capacity of approximately 2,390 cubic feet. Whether you use a ReloCube or an ocean container, your goods are not co-mingled with other shipments. A benefit customer's moving to Hawaii with U-Pack really like! The cost to move to Hawaii is based per container not by weight or space. Since you're not able to ship a vehicle in your container, we recommend checking with Dependable Auto shippers or Auto and Boat Relocation Services.
In most locations, the ocean container can be delivered right to your door at your origin location. It stands approximately 4' off the ground (it is not equipped with a ramp).
Containers ship out of California twice a week, so once it arrives in California, it normally takes around week to deliver in Hawaii. Your U-Pack quote will provide an estimated transit time from your origin to your destination in Hawaii.
Since your signed Bill of Lading must be received at least seven days prior to your move date, we ask that you reserve your ocean container move at least a week in advance. Payment is accepted by credit card prior to delivering the ocean container to your origin location for loading.
