For one reason or another, most of us will eventually need the services of a moving or relocation company.  How do you make sure that you choose the right one?

Grab a Phone Book
It may seem "old-school" but a great place to start looking for a relocation company is to grab your local phone book.  It's a good way to make sure that you can find a company that has a local presence.  The last thing you want is to hire a relocation company that doesn't have an employee within 1,000 miles.  Also, the phone book can be a good source of moving discounts or coupons.

Once you have an idea of the relocation companies that are available in your area, use the power of the internet to do some research.  Consumer based websites like Moving Scam, Epinions, or Kudzu can be a great resource for finding out how other customers fared with the relocation company that you are now considering. 

Talk to Friends
Your friends are going to be much more willing to recommend a relocation company than they will be to actually help you move.  If you know someone who has moved recently, find out who they used, and how it went.  Whether or not they can recommend the company that they used, you can still learn quite a bit about what to expect and what to watch out for.
