It's Flashback Friday! Each week U-Pack revisits a post that has been helpful (or fun) for our readers. Today's Flashback is helpful. It's all about finding the cheapest way to move across the country. If you're moving on a budget, I think you'll find it a very helpful read!

You know the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it, too"? That's what many think when it comes to moving— if it's easy, it must cost a fortune; or if it's a good deal, then there must be a catch. But U-Pack isn't your typical moving company. In most cases U-Pack is the cheapest way to move cross country and it's a simple moving solution!

Moving Cross Country Cheap
If you look at moving forums like movingscam.com, or consumer review sites like epinions.com, you'll likely find that U-Pack is one of the best options for moving cross country cheap. And not only is it cheap, it's also dependable (which runs a tight race with cheap in many people's opinions). That's why at epinions.com, you'll see words like "inexpensive" and "competitive prices" used regularly.

How does U-Pack accomplish moving across country cheap?
Have you seen an ABF Trailer like this traveling on the highway or in your city?

This is what your household belongings travel across country in if you choose a U-Pack trailer move. It comes to your home empty and ready to load. If you don't use the entire trailer, you don't pay for the entire trailer. You just pay for what you use (with a 5 ft. minimum). And this is one way U-Pack allows you to move cross country cheap.

As you can see in the image below, ABF has close to 300 service centers located throughout the U.S. And this is great for efficient travel, fast transit times, and cost reduction. Essentially, your belongings travel similar to how a box moves through a parcel shipping system. Professional ABF drivers travel from ABF terminal to ABF terminal until they get to the terminal servicing your destination city, then a city driver delivers it to your home. Another way U-Pack can offer a way to move cross country cheap.

As the U-Pack name suggests, you do the packing, loading and unloading, and ABF does the driving. So, if you're a "do-it-yourselfer" and can handle taking on some of the work to get a lower price, a "you pack, we drive" service is a great solution for moving cross country cheap. (If you're not really a "do-it-yourselfer", but still want to save money, you can add packing and loading help to your U-Pack move and still save money compared to most full-service movers.) Another reason you can move cross country cheap with U-Pack.

Give us a call at 800-413-4799 or get a moving quote to see how much your cross country move costs with U-Pack.

ABF is the cheapiest and most reliable moving company I have ever came acrossed. I used them a few months ago and must I say the professionalism and courteousy they give beats anybody. If you want to trust someone with you belongings and have your things moved safely with a reliable and reasonable (inexpensive) company across country ABF is the way to go!!!!! Mark My Words....And they dont deliver on the weekends however these drivers drive for days at a time they need a break. If you want everything and the only thing you have to deal with is getting your things on a monday verses saturday or sunday then who’s to argue with that! Noones better!!!! ABF is BEST!!!!

Just completed a 700 mile move with ABF and wanted to say thanks to the drivers and dispatchers. It is a super busy time to move but everyone did their best to make things work for us. The Ashtabula, Ohio driver was especially friendly and helpful. Definitely would use ABF again and recommend other to also.

I have not yet used ABF, but our across Country move is some time next month. We are starting from scratch, and are wanting to get it done in a few weeks time. I also have a car that is older, that we are thinking of driving back. But I don’t know if it will make it. The whole think is one very Stressful ordeal!!! I just hope and pray ABF is as good as some say. If I do use it, I will let you know our opinion.

I am confused, I hear so many people saying how much cheaper an option U-Pack was for them vs. renting U-Haul/Budget and doing it all themselves, including the driving. I have been quoted from east coast to west much higher than if I were to just rent a U-Haul and do it myself, is this correct/is there something I am missing?

Dan: Thanks so much for visiting the U-Pack Blog. Though there are always exceptions and there can occasionally be an unusual market where this isn't the case, what you've heard is true: U-Pack prices normally compare to truck rental when you're moving cross country. When you add fuel, sales tax and damage coverage to your rental truck price it usually looks very similar to your U-Pack price. If you've done that and there's still a large difference in price, it's a good idea to have a U-Pack representative take a look at. Let me know if you would like someone to contact you. Great question!

all our stuff is in storage in Sun Prairie WI. Do I need special boxes? What about odd stuff like tool boxes, a bed, shelving, t.v., exercise bike. some stuff i can pull behind car, but it would be cool if most could be shipped to another storage in KC, MO or place I move to in about 3 weeks. I have a 10 by 15 storage, not packed completely, so some different rate options would help me make a decision. Thanks, Kevin

This company sounds great! I will definitely request a quote once my moving date approaches.

Kevin, With U-Pack you do not have to have special boxes; however, we do recommend packing well and wrapping un-boxed items so that they travel safely. Make sure to take a look at U-Pack's packing tips and loading tips. A fully packed 10x14x8 storage facility should fit into around 16 linear feet of the trailer (16x8x9). Your moving quote will include a per-foot adjustment rate that you can add or subtract if you need more or less space. Have you already gotten a quote? If not, you can get one here, just by entering a little information about your move.

Thanks Ray! Let me know if you have any questions.

The quote I got was the same as U-Haul! And for only 5 feet of trailer space?! O.o
Name: Becky
Date: 11-8-2012
Alicia, Thank you for visiting the U-Pack blog! U-Pack prices are typically comparable to U-Haul, but we do the driving, and there are no additional charges for fuel, sales tax, or damage coverage. 5 linear feet of the trailer typically holds one room of furniture (or a studio-size apartment). Please let me know if you have any questions--I'll be happy to help!

I would like to know what the cost & what is invoved in to move from Nova Scotia, Canada to Hawaii
Name: Becky with U-Pack
Date: 2-9-2013
Hi Julie, I have forwarded your information to a moving specialist to provide a moving quote. They'll need to know where you're moving to in Hawaii, how much you're moving, and approximately when you're planning to move; you'll get an email from a U-Pack representative requesting this information shortly. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thank you!!

Do you all move cars? Father moving West to east and has a car and house that needs to be moved. We are not hyped about a 71 yr old moving himself cross country with Penske pulling a car.
Name: Becky with U-Pack
Date: 2-21-2013
Hi Darby! I completely understand feeling uneasy about pulling a car behind a rental truck across the country. While we are not able to transport vehicles, we can refer you to a company called Auto & Boat Relocation Services who can. This is a route a lot of U-Pack customers go when they have a vehicle to get across the country, but don't want to drive a rental truck. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you need to get a moving quote for your father. Thanks for visiting the U-Pack Blog!

$2,600 is cheap?? I don’t think so.

I am not really finding that your prices are comparable to using a U-haul. I keep getting a 3800. quote to move from Texas to Montana for U-pack. My estimate with Uhaul is at least 1,000 less.
Name: Becky with U-Pack

Hi Melissa, Thank you for visiting the U-Pack Blog! Though U-Pack is typically one of the least expensive moving options available (especially when you consider that you don't have to drive the truck), there are some locations where we may not be as price competitive. We would love the chance to take a look at your quote and see if there are ways we can help you save. Are you already including the fuel, damage coverage and sales tax in your U-Haul price (fuel looks to be somewhere around $700-$800)? If you get a chance, please give us a call at 800-413-4799 and we'll see how we can help!
