Verify Dates and Timing

Knowing the exact dates your move will take place (loading, transit, and unloading) is something that may not seem an important detail initially, but it could be!

Is the date the truck will arrive for loading a guaranteed date?
Check for wording on your contract that might indicate that it could be brought to you on a date other than the date you expect it to arrive.

How long will the truck be left at your house for loading?
You want plenty of time to complete your loading, but knowing it will be picked up in a timely manner once loading is complete is important as well.

Once the truck is in transit, are you able to track its progress?
Make sure there is information on the contract regarding how to track the shipment during transit.

When will the truck arrive at your new home?
Is the transit time estimated or guaranteed? If estimated, is a guaranteed transit time available – if so, what is the cost for a guarantee?  Is the transit time business days only, or are weekends/holidays included in the transit time? What day does the transit time begin?

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions to fully understand what you are signing up for.

Common moving scams include quoting low prices initially, then raising the purchase price on delivery or never delivering items whatsoever. In line with the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the quantity of complaints against moving companies has tripled within the last decade. In 1997, there was under 3,000 complaints nationwide weighed against over 9,400 complaints in 2004. The quantity of complaints against rogue moving companies carries on growing.
It is highly recommended that consumers must allow time for research before their move while offering several sources. The greater Business Bureau at BBB.org is a superb starting place to learn if any complaints are already lodged against the moving company. I personally also recommends the Federal Highway Administration to verify the sort of authority the business maintains. The administration can tell consumers in the event the company is asset based or perhaps a broker. Brokers are middlemen who book moves for a number of trucking companies.

Moving can be so scary I have experienced a horrible ordeal more than just a year ago when moving to a new home. I also own a business with over 25 employees and we needed to expand as our company was growing, i found a place bigger enough to grow with a growing business, i was very skeptical about calling an Moving company due to the fact of the experience and the scams that are going on.
