Moving can be a stressful time for anybody. However, there are steps you can take to make a move less stressful and more organized! Consider these 3 tips for a smart move to help ensure your move is as easy as possible.

Tips for a Smart Move:

  • Getting organized - Organization is the key to a smart move. The key to being organized is starting early! The biggest mistake people make when moving is not leaving enough time to pack.  Begin by making a list of what needs to be packed in each room, such as furniture, clothes, dishes, etc. Be sure to have plenty of moving supplies: sturdy boxes, Bubble Wrap, and tape are essential to safely packing your belongings.)
  • Pack your things in an orderly manner- Pack up each room one at a time. Packing several rooms at once will only lead to chaos and will ultimately make moving more difficult. Be sure to label each box so you'll know exactly which room the boxes need to go to in once you arrive at your new home. Remember to label dishes and breakables as "fragile" to prevent damage.
  • Find great movers - Try referrals from friends and family who have recently moved, and be sure to check online review sites for other previous customer experiences.  Make sure your potential moving company is also licensed, bonded and insured.

Anyone who has ever moved knows just how stressful it can be. Try following these tips for a smart move to avoid a hectic experience!  Have a question about moving? Call us at 800- 413-4799!

Audrey, if you were moving from New Mexico to Virginia, would you recommend a you pack we move option or a full service mover?

Jenifer,
Moving from New Mexico to Virginia is around 2400 miles (depending on your exact locations)--that's a long distance move! It's difficult to say which means of moving I recommend because it really depends on your needs. Going the full-service route means a lot less work for you--just schedule the movers and let them do the work. And going the "you pack, we drive" route means a little more work on your part (since you do the packing, loading and unloading), but you'll see a significant cost savings. Here's what I recommend - get a full-service moving estimate from MoveBuilder, and request a transportation only moving quote from U-Pack. The full-service price will be higher than transportation only, but you may find that it's worth it to have experienced movers pack, load and unload for you. Keep in mind that with MoveBuilder you can choose just the services you want. For example, if you want to do the packing, but get movers to load and unload, that's possible. I hope this information helps.
