The best part about moving is having a clean slate to decorate. I absolutely love walking into a bare home and imagining the possibilities. I am not very creative on my own, but I take inspiration from some awesome blogs. In my quest to decorate my new home, I have found some awesome decorating websites. To help you get some inspiration, check out these 10 best DIY decorating blogs (in my opinion).
The Lettered Cottage – I stumbled on this blog looking for DIY shades, and I am so glad I did! They have beautiful tutorials showing you how to do lots of decorating around your home complete with pictures and great detailed instructions. I feel like their ideas are ones that I could actually pull off in my home. You can see all of their blog posts on DIY decorating here. They have some great holiday tutorials too.
Ana White – Ana takes fancy furniture she sees in catalogs and makes it herself. Talk about taking DIY to a new level! She has 100s of free plans to make anything from cabinets to beds to tables and more. You can search the plans here according to skill level, room, and estimated cost. I think I’m going to buy a drill and saw and make this Pottery Barn inspired umbrella table for our patio!
Centsational Girl – Kate shows you how to get “diamond style on a dime” and she comes through on that promise. Her project gallery features everything from furniture makeovers (think thrift shop finds made over) to craft projects, holiday decorating, and more. One of my favorite decorating blog posts here is her no sew cloth napkin pillow covers. They are a great way to change your throw pillows in a snap.
Shanty 2 Chic– This decorating blog is another favorite of mine. You can sort of choose your level of DIY here. For those who want to go “all in” there is DIY furniture to build, or for those who want simple DIY, there are plenty of free printables to dress up your home. Once you start browsing this site, you will recognize lots of their blog posts because you have seen them all over Pinterest!
Thrifty Décor Chick– I love thrify, especially when it comes to decorating. I change my mind so often, that I can’t afford to shell out big bucks on decorating items. Well, Sarah shows you how to do just about anything on the cheap (without it looking cheap!). Her DIY category covers everything from organization to home improvements and famous brand knock-offs. I especially love her Pottery Barn rustic wood art look-alike.
Dollar Store Crafts – Staying in the thrifty category, this website will give you ideas for tons of things, using items bought at the dollar store! From decorating ideas, to gifts, to holiday items, there are endless ideas on this site. Check out how she made this trendy DIY pouf pillow using a rug! Genius!
The Friendly Home – This blog is a great place for inspiration and DIY directions. There are countless tutorials for home improvement (like a better return air grille) to furniture, to other home decorating tasks. I really love the posts where they explain things, like how to use water-based stain. These tips will help you in so many DIY decorating projects!
The HandMade Home - You might think from the name that this blog is all about DIY home decorating – and that is part of it. But Ashley and Jamin go way beyond that and show you how to live a simpler, more beautiful life. They do throw in lots of decorating ideas and tutorials along the way! I mean, just check out the way they transform pumpkins into beautiful works of art with their DIY metallic pumpkin tutorial blog post! I can’t wait for fall to make some of these myself.
The Crafting Chicks – “The Chicks” are a group of five women who wanted to share crafty ideas with one another, and now they share them with countless blog readers. I almost get overwhelmed at the amount of awesomeness in this site. There are DIY home decorating posts, ideas to make your trash into treasure, and even cleaning tips (because if you are like me, you make a mess when you DIY). Be prepared to spend lots of time browsing this great DIY decorating blog.
UCreate – “Inspiring you to create” is the tagline of this blog, and boy does it! Kari and Becky do an awesome job covering every corner of the craft world. Home decorating, kids crafts, parties, and more. Just check out their extensive DIY index to browse all their great ideas.
Are there other decorating blogs that belong on our top 10 list? I know I haven’t even tapped the surface of all the awesome sites on the web. Be sure and leave your favorite in the comments!
