From my perspective, the best thing about moving is getting a clean slate to decorate. Don’t you absolutely love walking into an empty room, imagining all of the decorating possiblities? I'll admit that I’m not all that creative on my own, but give me a great, step-by-step DIY blog or some awesome instructional Pinterest pins, and this girl's ready to get decorating! What did we ever do without them?
If you’re moving into a new home (or apartment), the potential is endless! Take a look at some of my very favorite DIY blogs/bloggers and check out our decorating ideas board on Pinterest – I hope you’re inspired!
DIY Decorating Blogs You Don’t Want to Miss
The Lettered Cottage
I stumbled onto The Lettered Cottage looking for DIY shades, and I’m so glad I did! I feel like their ideas are ones I could actually pull off. You’ll find beautiful tutorials, complete with pictures and great detailed instructions for decorating your home.
Talk about taking DIY to a new level! Ana White is a pro at taking fancy furniture she sees in catalogs and making it herself. Her blog offers 100s of free plans to make things like cabinets, beds, tables, etc. Her plans are searchable to skill level, room, and estimated cost. I think I’ll buy a drill and saw and create this Pottery Barn inspired umbrella table for our patio! Cute!!
Here, Kate shows you how to get “diamond style on a dime,” and she comes through on that promise. Her project gallery features everything from furniture makeovers, craft projects, holiday decorating and more. One of my favorites is her no sew cloth napkin pillow covers. They’re a great way to change your throw pillows in a snap.
Shanty 2 Chic
If you’re looking for a DIY decorating blog where you can choose your level of DIY, this is the place. If you want to go all in, you can find plenty of complicated projects, like building furniture. But if you want to keep it simple, you’ll find free printables to dress up your home with little to no effort. My guess is that once you start browsing this blog, you’ll recognize a lot of their ideas on Pinterest!
If the word “thrifty” piques your interest, you’ll love this blog; it offers great tips for those decorating on a budget, and those who just change their mind so often that you they afford to shell out big bucks on decorating items (not that I'm speaking from experience or anything). Sarah shows you how to do just about anything on the cheap, without it looking cheap.
Staying in the thrifty category, this blog offers some great decorating ideas using items bought at the dollar store! Check out how she made this trendy DIY pouf pillow using a rug! Genius!
This blog goes a step further than just decorating ideas; it’s a great place for inspiration, too. You’ll find posts about building furniture, remodeling, crafts, and cooking – with a focus on clean, earth-friendly living. One of my absolute favorites is this awesome reading loft.
You might think that a blog named The Handmade Home is all about DIY home decorating; while they throw in lots of decorating ideas and tutorials along the way, Ashley and Jamin go way beyond that to show you how to live a simpler, more beautiful life. A GREAT example is this post called “The lazy gal’s survival guide to better housekeeping.” Helpful and hilarious.
The "Chicks" are a group of five women who started out sharing crafty ideas with one another, and now share them with countless blog readers. I’m almost overwhelmed with the awesomeness available on this blog. You’ll find DIY home decorating posts, ideas for turning your trash into treasure, and even some cleaning tips (are you a DIY craft mess-maker like me?). This one’s a little addictive, so make sure you’ve got plenty of time to browse!
This blog was designed to “inspire YOU to create” – and boy does it! You’ll find tons of step-by-step tutorials, free downloads, party, craft and home décor ideas, and even some recipes. Kari and Becky do an awesome job covering every corner of the craft/DIY world.
