Are you home shopping? With thousands of homes for sale, looking through endless real estate listings can be a tiring process. You'll normally find that the process is much more manageable if you narrow your focus to houses that fit your criteria (and pretend you don't even know the others exist). What does that house look like for you? What features and amenities are must-haves and what are like-to-haves? Do you need a big backyard for your dogs? How many bedrooms do you need? Is your new neighborhood safe? What about the commute? Once you've narrowed it down, the search becomes much less overwhelming.

A friend recently moved from The South to Connecticut. After seeing the results of last night’s election, she was surprised that she had moved to a strong Democratic state—it’s something she hadn’t thought about before she moved. If you are planning a move, and you feel strongly about moving to a state with residents who vote predominately for the political party you’re affiliated with, take a look at the Election Results Map below. It’s color-coded based on 2012 Election Results.
*Red states are those that voted Republican majority for Mitt Romney. Blue states are those that voted Democratic majority for Barack Obama. As of right now, Florida is still awaiting final results, but several news networks have called the state for Obama.
Unless you're in Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, or the Northern Marianas Islands, don't forget to set your clocks back this weekend! Daylight Saving Time officially comes to an end Sunday, November 4th.
And you know what that means... an extra hour to do whatever you wish! If my kids will participate, I plan to sleep (and I consider that a gift). What about you? How will you spend your extra hour?

I’m not sure how I missed this. I’m usually fairly on top of things happening both politically and in the moving realm (especially in an election year). But, I just ran across a news story on CNN.com from back in September that grabbed my attention. Reportedly, a U-Haul truck, packed with security equipment for a campaign event featuring Vice President Joe Biden, was stolen right out of a Detroit hotel parking lot. But no worries, the U-Haul and most of its contents were recovered the very next day. And, the event carried on as planned. Whew.
Of course, this news report made me wonder... as a consumer, what would happen if my rental truck got stolen while I was moving? Let’s say I’m moving across the country, so ... Read More

Since some studies show that organic foods are more beneficial than their conventionally grown counterparts, more and more people are moving to this seemingly healthier style of consumption. And while most communities in the US offer some type of organic or farmer’s markets, there are some locations that are definitely known as “organic cities,” thanks to the abundance of organic markets available in the area.
What better way to celebrate the ending of one phase of life and the beginning of a new one than a fun vacation?! Moving across the country with U-Pack gives you the freedom to do just that. Not to brag, because this doesn’t happen very often, and I definitely don’t want to jinx it, but Arkansas is experiencing some amazing (granted unseasonal) spring-like weather. It’s January and today’s high is 68° and it’s supposed to be in the 70’s by the end of the week! This time last year we were about to experience record-breaking snow falls in the area. We’ll take it!
But, I know that “real” winter is coming, and some parts of the country are already experiencing it in full-force (namely Alaska). It’s that time of year again folks, people are starting to plan Spring Break vacays! While tropical locations are probably most popular, many spring breakers plan to head to cold-weather, powder-laden destinations for a little fun in the snow.

Oh, and would you believe that the state of New York has 52 mountains to ski and snowboard?
If you’re moving to the West Coast—specifically Oregon, Washington or California, you may be pleased to know that you’re moving to areas where you have first-hand access to some of the tastiest wine in the country. According to Food & Wine Magazine the West Coast is the home to the top vineyards in the U.S. And when you consider that wine grapes need at least 1,400 hours of annual sunlight during the growing season to ripen properly, it makes sense that this portion of the country would be optimal.
This West Coast Wineries infographic, just released in the U-Pack Press Room, depicts some of these locations (and never mind that they’re beautiful too).
Since 1790 the U.S. census has been tracking the mean center of the U.S. population. According to this infographic, titled How Moving Companies are Changing the U.S. Landscape, at first count it was 23 miles east of Baltimore, but over the years it has moved steadily west, and more recently south. I’m certain I would have never guessed the current population center (as of the 2010 census). Plato, Missouri — an incorporated village in Texas County, Missouri with a population of only around 2,000.
The infographic also depicts the “30 Best Cities for Starting Over,” the “Top 10 cities in the U.S. by Population,” and “The Most Common State-to-State Moves.” It’s definitely worth checking out.

Based on information from the U.S. Census Bureau, we know that "attending or leaving college" is one reason a fairly large number of people relocate each year. For people hoping to become a chef, restaurant manager, food researcher, nutritionist, food salesman or food stylist/photographer, that may mean a move across the country to attend an awesome culinary school. And they're everywhere. In fact, these days you can find one in just about every state in the U.S. But if you want to go beyond just your home state, and your goal is to attend the best cooking school in the country, check out the infographic on the Nations' Top Culinary Schools. It shows the top schools by region— including New York, Texas, Illinois, Arizona and California.
Most high school students beginning their college search will probably tell you that there's a little more to choosing a college than just educational opportunities (much to their parents chagrin). They might even tell you that while the campus is a hugely important decision-maker, the surrounding city is just as important. The college experience reaches far beyond the classroom walls— students care about what there is to do off-campus too.
I don't know about you, but we kicked the holidays off right this year. On Halloween night, two little people, dressed as Strawberry Shortcake and Spiderman, left my house with two huge, empty, plastic jack-o-lanterns at 7:00pm. They walked back in the door at 9:00pm with more candy than we'll be able to eat in a year (though the chocolate may or may not already be gone). Fun times and great memories!
No doubt others across the country had the same successful "candy collecting" experience. That's especially true for the folks in the cities mentioned in this infographic, just released in the U-Pack press room; it shows the Top 5 Cities to Trick-or-Treat in 2011. This weekend, my husband and I watched Moneyball at the theater. If you haven't seen it, you should. Great movie— whether you're a baseball fan or not. While the story and concept behind what Billy Beane did with the Oakland A's was super interesting, it made me think beyond how the game is won because it's also a story of fan loyalty. It's not difficult to show-up for a team when they're on top, with all of the best, well-known, highest-paid players. But it's a little more difficult when they're on a losing streak and the talent pool doesn't seem quite as awesome.
In my former life, I worked as a residence hall director at a university. During that time I picked up on the importance of living on-campus, especially for underclassmen. Studies show that students who live on campus have higher GPAs, are more likely to graduate, do a better job of making friends and getting connected, have less stresses about money, become more successful leaders, and have a better over-all college experience. I'll take that.
So what are the colleges with highest student population living on-campus? Check out this infographic just released in the U-Pack Press Release – Dorm Life: Living On-Campus. A little interesting tidbit you'll find on the infographic: 40% of college students nationwide live in on-campus housing.
One of my co-workers just recently started doing something I think is really cool. He and his wife have a goal to visit every Major League baseball stadium in the U.S. So far they've marked four off their list: Rangers Ballpark to see the Texas Rangers, Chase Field to see the Arizona Diamondbacks, Busch Stadium to see the St. Louis Cardinals and Kauffman Stadium to see the Kansas City Royals. They've got somewhere around 25 more to go— that ought to keep them busy for a while! What an awesome addition to your bucket list.
Their excitement about visiting these great baseball cities actually prompted an infographic that I think you'll like— especially if you're a baseball fan too. You'll probably like it even more if your team made the list! Take a look at the Top 5 Must... Read More
