What is the cheapest way to move?

This, folks, is the million dollar question. And, when you Google it, you get lots and lots of answers. Of course, everyone tells you their way is the cheapest way to move – whether it is or not. The only way to find out for sure is to do the research, starting with getting moving quotes.

You’ll probably find that most full service movers require an in-home estimate, where they come to your home, take a look at your stuff, and estimate your moving cost based on weight. Although there are exceptions, like MoveBuilder™ - movers who charge based on space rather than weight – you probably won't add most full service movers to your “cheapest way to move” list.  They usually aren’t. Always looking for a deal
It seems like everyone is looking for the cheapest moving truck rentals these days.  And why wouldn’t they? Penny pinching is what’s “cool” right now. I would wager a bet that if you picked up a magazine from a news stand today, you would find a helpful article titled something like: “Ways to save”, “Top 10 things you can do to cut back”, or “20 painless money-saving tips”.

It’s the world we’re living in - although, there are rumors of things picking back up. People who lost jobs earlier in the year are finding new ones and they’re starting to move again. Yippee!

Even if things are getting better, you can’t help but want to make sure you’re getting the best deal when it comes time to move. Looking for the cheapest moving truck rentals is a go...

I have to admit…this economy makes me a little nervous. I can only imagine what it would feel like if I had to move in the middle of it. Yes, we are a moving company. And yes, we would love to move you – but right now, let’s just talk about ways you can keep moving from being so expensive.

This is just a little brainstorming session for Cheap Moving Tips – feel free to add to it if you’ve got ideas:

1. Do-it-yourself. If you’re able to pack your own stuff rather than hiring someone to do it for you, you’ll save a significant amount of money. Ask your friends and family to help - pizza and drinks cost a whole lot less than moving labor.

2. Have a garage sale. Read Jean’s...

Best time of year to move…
If you’re not set on a summer move – consider choosing fall or winter. Since not as many people move this time of year, the moving industry is a litter slower, resulting in more competitive prices. Get a moving quote and compare.

Moving around the holidays…
If you can avoid it, try not to move around a holiday. People often try to coordinate moving plans...
