How to Ship a Small Amount of Furniture Without Spending Too Much Money

If you ask your friends how to move furniture on the cheap, you’ll get a variety of answers.  Some will tell you not to move it at all, but sell everything and buy new stuff for your new home.  Some will tell you to rent a truck. Some might have the best idea: to use U-Pack. If you’re like me, you’ll actually want to move your furniture to your new home, even if it’s just a few pieces. But how do you do that for the cheapest price?

Moving is affordable with U-Pack.

What is the cheapest way to move my stuff?

That’s a great question (and a common one). If you tried Googling it, you probably saw several responses from movers claiming they’re the cheapest. In reality, it all depends on how much you’re moving, where you’re moving from and to, when you’re moving, and how much of the work you’re willing to do on your own.

Research will tell you that full-service movers are the most expensive, and in contrast, services where you do some (or all) of the work on your own, are the cheapest. So, if cheap is your goal, DIY is where you want to start.

I’m looking for a cheap way to move long distance…have any suggestions?

Sure do! Lots of people looking to move across the country cheap go for a do-it-yourself moving service. By rolling up your sleeves and doing some of the work yourself, you can generally save BIG on your move. So who offers these cheap moving services?

U-Pack® does!

In case you’re not familiar, U-Pack is an innovative DIY moving service where you do the loading/unloading, but not the driving.

A closer look at how U-Pack offers such cheap moving services

Like I mentioned, with U-Pack, you do the packing, loading, and unloading just like you would if you rented a truck and drove it yourself. But instead of driving the moving truck, an experienced driver takes care of that. You get to make the trip in your own vehicle.

Celebrate with a moving coupon!

What better time to move than when the sun is shining and the kids are out of school? It’s National Moving Month, and that means it’s time to kick off the busiest season of the year for moving!

Did you know that somewhere around 37 million people will move this year? 37 million people… that’s a lot of moving trucks! Of that 37 million, most of the moves actually take place in May, June, July, and August—which is why you’ll often hear this time of year referred to as “peak moving season.” That's certainly what we’ve experienced at U-Pack!  Last year 43.5% of our customers moved during those months.

If you’re searching for a way to get your finances under control and you took the plunge and got the iPhone 5, there are some budget apps you’ll definitely want to check into. My advice is to try out the “lite” version first (if a free option is available), then make the purchase after you’ve decided on the one(s) that fit your lifestyle best. John Maxwell says, “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” Using a budget app on your iPhone could be a great place to start getting control.
