Is your PODS® rate too high?

(Post updated 10/27/14)

If you’ve seen a PODS® container around town, you may have thought they look like a convenient way to move—much better than driving a huge rental truck across the country (because who wants to do the driving). They fit perfectly into a driveway or in front of a house, and they sit close to the ground, so moving things in and out seems super easy. But then you request a quote and see the price…

If you’re moving long distance and your PODS® rate is higher than your budget allows, check out U-Pack!

It’s a similar "you pack, we drive-type" service, where a container is dropped at your home, you load it, and we pick it up and drive it to your new home, but the price often compares to truck rental.

Is a passport required to move to Canada?

Not always—it depends on how you plan to get there. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires travelers to present documents that prove identity and citizenship. Ideally, this is a passport, but you may be able to use other documents, depending on your mode of transportation. But, the Canadian Border Patrol recommends carrying your passport if you’re traveling internationally—regardless of your transportation choice.

If you need a passport, don’t forget to check the passport processing times. At the time of posting, routine passport service was 4-6 weeks, and expedited service was within 3 weeks.

I’m Moving. How Much Will It Cost to Tow My Car?

The Price of Towing a Car

Moving costs can really add up when you consider all that’s involved – the truck rental, supplies, and fuel.  And if you need to tow a car, it can get even more expensive. The price to tow a vehicle varies based on the company you choose, the type of equipment you use, and how far you’re moving. Here’s an example: For a move from Tampa, FL to Sacramento, CA, a U-Haul® tow dolly would cost about $159 and a car trailer about $319. With Budget® the tow dolly would cost about $139 and the car trailer about $318.

If you’re trying to decide whether towing your car is a good option for your move, there’s a little more to consider than just price. Towing a vehicle can slow you down and add extra stress to your move.
